Your Place Or Mine - Episode Ten - Granada Spain

It is the final episode of these series!

Shaun Keaveny, Iszi Lawrence and sophia Smith Galer in not that order

This week a town so celebrated that every Spanish monarch wanted to be buried here. Also Sidney Bernstein once had a jolly lovely holiday in Granada and named his series of cinemas and theatres after the city. He later set up his ground breaking ITV franchise also called it Granada.

Granda was the last outpost of Islamic Spain. Spain was muslim for about 800 years after some very cool Berbers (I might have a teeny tiny Moroccan bias) ousted the Visigoths. They got all the way up to the pyrenees before they were told to stop. In my historic fiction head I do wonder what would have happened if they kept going north. The trouble is there wasn’t much in france and Britain at the time (700AD), just a lot of soggy forest. The fact it was possible on paper to have a fully islamic Europe is pretty awesome concept for some alternative historical fiction though.

Posh olive oil. Very nice.

We had a feast of ham, cheese, olives, bread and oil to munch through while listening to Sophia talk about the Alhambra. We also had quite a lot of sherry. And some lovely crumbly cakey things.

But it isn’t a place without hazards. Did you know you can get SUN POISONING??

I do hope you are enjoyed this podcast! We hopefully will be back soon - if you enjoyed the show please do leave us a review and share it with your friends.
