The Forum - Deep Fakes

Action shot of trying to decipher the real from the fake!

The Forum is a proper factual flagship of the BBC World Service. So I was incredibly honoured to be given a shot at presenting an episode. This one is on Deep Fakes, footage that is made to look real, either by trickery or AI.

I learned very quickly that footage I thought was real turned out to be fake, and footage that I suspected was actually real. This could pose a real threat to the future. When seeing isn’t believing!

To discuss this I was joined by Francesca Panetta, Director of the AKO Storytelling Institute at the University of the Arts, London; Joshua Glick, Visiting Associate Professor of Film and Electronic Arts at Bard College, NY and Samantha Cole, senior Editor at Motherboard/Vice and author of 'How Sex Changed the Internet'.

I also got to interview artist and technologist Halsey Burgund and from listeners Brandy and Ahmad.

It is my first time appearing on The World Service. It is incredible when you consider the size of the audience, tuning in around the world. I’m dead pleased to have been a part of it.

It will be broadcast at 27 May 2023 12:06 Local time BBC WORLD SERVICE EXCEPT EAST AND SOUTHERN AFRICA & WEST AND CENTRAL AFRICA.
