Your Place or Mine - Miami - Janette Manrara
Your Place Or Mine - Episode Seven - Miami
By the end of this episode you will have either Will Smith or Light House family stuck in your brain.
This week we were joined by Janette Manrara who I’m slightly convinced is a separate species to me. She is so petite and elegant, it was the best I could do to not appear like an ostrich next to her.
Miami is not a place I knew much about, other than what I’ve gleaned from Scarface, GTA Vice City and Flipper. My friend Dave Hone informed me excitedly Florida is the ONLY place on the planet where you can see alligators and crocodiles sharing a habitat.
When you think of Florida you think of orange juice and it is this which caused miami to be founded. A terrible frost in 1894-5 wiped out the majority of the orange crop and the only in place that seemed to escape the cold was the area that is now miami. The city was founded by a woman, Julia Tuttle who managed to convince the railway to come down to the coast. Ever since has been a real mix of US, caribbean and South American cultures.
Talking of mixing, it was Shaun’s turn to make the drinks this week. Not the best Mojito I’ve ever sampled but certainly the only one I’ve drunk out of a BBC mug.
