School Workshops!

I had an amazing time visiting schools for World Book day again this year.

When I go into schools I like to involve the entire class in learning both about History and also about what makes a good story. The best way I’ve found to do this is to have a ‘brainstorm’ encouraging kids to shout out facts and other things they know about the time period before then seeing what we can include in a story. Then, once that is fleshed out a bit (and iszi has spelt out words on the board) we aim to write a short scene individually, and if there is time, read them out!

I’ve had amazing stories come up, from mums being accused of witchcraft in the civil war, Boudicca’s forgotten son, a failed escape attempt by Anne Boleyn and the reasons why our main character DELIBERATELY started the Fire of London.

Kids are much better at this writing business than I am!
