Stephen Mangan: Erris, Ireland

We’re back!

I felt slightly outnumbered in this episode of Your Place Or Mine. It is our first show back and I was surrounded by people with a strong Irish heritage all of whom had misty eyes over well, the misty isles… or rather the windswept isles.

Irris is on the west coast of Ireland and gets the full battering from the gulf stream. Keeping your hair quaffed is impossible here.

As is getting a tan.

Stephen loves it - he seems to be related to about 95% of the population, knowing them all since he was a child. Both parents come from this part of the world and he regularly visits on holiday. Shaun’s ancestors are also from this part of the world… as are our producer Beth’s… so my skepticism about the lack of activities that allow you to stay dry (both in drink and in clothing). But I must say the rugged landscape, the isolation and seascapes does sound tempting… some of us like wearing cagoules after all.
