Maisie Adam: Rovaniemi, Finland

Us being let back in the non-burning building. Shaun’s still a bit worried.

Most exciting recording this one - not just because it is the first time I got to meet Maisie Adam (we were both delighted by each other’s height) but because halfway through the fire alarm went off! This is the first time for me, Shaun AND my producer Beth have had a proper fire alarm go off in the BBC. We were right at the top of the building so had to go down seven floors to get out. It was most dramatic. All the live shows went on emergency broadcast (apparently the BBC New 24 is in a sealed fireproof bunker, and carries on in the flames).

We all had to go stand outside the BBC like kids in the playground waiting for the grown ups to let us back in. Alas, we were over by the radio people so we didn’t get to see any famous folks. They might have been there of course…. but radio, you know? Got to keep your ears peeled or you’ll miss them.

Anyway, there was no fire, so we all squidged into the lift, ran into the studio and completed the episode. This one is about Finland, heavy metal, aurora borealis and angry football santa. Maisie was a dream, and I’m not just saying that because she’s the right height.

Listen to Your Place Or Mine on Radio 4 at 10am on Saturdays or anytime you please on BBC SOUNDS.
